Bob brings 30+ years of engineering, design and management experience to GS Plastic Optics. Bob started his career in nuclear power generation working at several nuclear power plants before transitioning to gas and electric transmission and distribution. He has held a variety of positions ranging from Engineer through Executive Management while in power generation and distribution.
Bob transitioned into optics in 2000 and held positions including Design Engineer, Engineering Director and Vice President. In these roles Bob was responsible for program development, staffing and over all guidance of design, R&D and manufacturing support for a large spectrum of imaging and projection optics. Bob holds a BSME from Wichita State University and enjoys bicycling, riding his motorcycle and SCUBA in his spare time.
Steve brings 25+ years of experience in sales, strategy and business development to his role as Sales Executive at GS Plastic Optics. Mr. Orth has spent the last 12 years mentoring and supporting advanced technology startups in commercialization, market and positioning strategies, business development and growth. Prior to that, he worked in a variety of sales, business development and customer support roles for lasers and electro-optics companies supplying leading products to photonics, telecom, instrumentation, biotech and chip manufacturing applications. Steve holds dual degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Physics from Clarkson University and SUNY Potsdam. Mr. Orth’s broad experience in sales and business strategy, in combination with his strong technical background, makes him well positioned to work collaboratively with customers to meet their project needs.
Val joined GS Plastic Optics in 2013, bringing on board thirty years of experience in the Optics industry. He has an MSME degree with a concentration in Optical Engineering from Kiev Polytechnic Institute, and an MBA from the University of Rochester. His major role is providing application engineering and sales support on GS Plastic Optics products and services, and managing customer projects. Val maintains the balance in his life in the practice of yoga, and has achieved certification as a Kundalini yoga teacher.
Lori joined GS Plastic Optics in January, 2015 as our Director of Manufacturing and Operations. Lori comes to us with 15 years experience in manufacturing operations management. Her experience includes managing polymer optics injection molding, electro-optical assembly, diamond turned prototypes and production, optical thin-film coating, tooling, production machining, supply chain management, and project management. Lori holds a BA degree from the University of Rochester, with a Certificate in Management studies concentrating in economics and management.
Nick’s career with GS Plastic Optics began in 2004 when he was hired as an Applications Engineer. In 2006 he moved into the Quality Assurance Manager position and served a critical role in establishing our Diamond Turning department. In 2012, Nick brought the GS Plastic Optics quality system up to ISO 9001:2008 compliance, with certification gained in 2013. Nick continues his roots in sales by collaborating with customers and the application engineering group to reduce manufacturability risks and offer alternative design approaches. Critical to function inspection and testing requirements are also incorporated into that process, following the guideline that “you can’t make what you can’t measure”. He holds a BS degree from the University of Rochester, Institute of Optics and an MBA degree with emphasis on Quality Management and Product Commercialization from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Brett LeBeau brings 40 years of plastics experience to GSPO. During his 30 year tenure at Eastman Kodak, Brett specialized in process and tooling development as a member of the Plastics R&D Engineering group. He was one of two pioneers to develop, teach, and implement scientific molding strategies to Kodak sites worldwide. Brett’s data driven approach assures the molding process is robust and repeatable confirming run to run consistency. Brett has experience in medical, defense, aerospace, and commercial markets.
Ken joined our team in 2015. He has over 35 years of process and tooling development experience, and is well versed in all facets of manufacturing engineering. Ken offers expertise in Scientific Injection Molding, and works closely with our production team to analyze our process parameters and standardize those best practices to optimize consistency and repeatability of the components we produce. When Ken is not working, he enjoys camping, sports and time with his family.
Sam Scott joined the GS Plastic Optics team in 2017 and has 19 years of experience in the field of injection molding. He spent the last eleven years in program management, in charge of a variety of projects ranging from polymer optical singlets to opto-electrical assemblies. Sam also has years of experience in metrology and optical injection mold set-up and process development.
Sylvia Callari joined GS Plastic Optics in August 2017. Sylvia has worked in electronics and optical manufacturing for over 30 years. Sylvia has experience in supply chain management, new product development, engineering, and customer service serving the medical, defense, and high volume commercial markets. When not working, she spends her time with her family, children and grandchildren.
Andy is a third generation executive leader of the Germanow-Simon Companies. He earned his BA degree from St. Lawrence University and an MLA degree from Utah State University in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning. During his 40+ years working at GS Plastic Optics and Tel-Tru he has been involved in all aspects of manufacturing operations and business development.
Colin Sheridan joined our team in 2014, as President of both GS Plastic Optics and our associate company Tel-Tru Manufacturing Company. Colin attended college at Purdue University and earned his MBA degree at the University of Chicago. He worked in the Chicago area in positions ranging from software design, product development, and sales and marketing management. Upon his return to Rochester in 2006, he became General Manager and then President of Lunch Byte Systems, Inc. Most recently, Colin served as CEO, with a voice and data communications provider based in Albany. Colin serves on the Board of Directors of Foodlink, the Rochester area food bank, and on the Board of Advisors for Rochester-based ER Associates. Colin and his wife Erin have three children. He enjoys coaching youth basketball and supporting his children’s sports and other extracurricular activities.
Catherine has spent her entire career in Accounting, working for manufacturing companies, mostly in the Rochester NY area. She began working at Germanow-Simon in 1997 as Accounting Manager for GS Plastic Optics and associate company Tel-Tru Manufacturing Company. She was promoted to Controller of both in 2003, and to Vice President of Finance and Administration in 2016. She majored in music her first year of college, having played piano since age 7, and now has an extensive music collection.
